CSIRO - Parkes Observatory, New South Wales, Australia
Woke this morning to a cold misty drizzle, which strengthened as the day went on, went into Orange for breakfast and then headed out. We did not expect a heavy caching day due to the rain.
We went through Manildra, the coming of the railway heralded the real beginning of the new Manildra, May 1893 the staion master residence and goods shed were built and by nov !893 the line from Molong was opened at a cost of $9786,00 per mile, (the notice board says dollars not pounds - it my have been converted). Manildra today has a large flour mill which produces a large quota of Australia's flour.
Whilst we were winkling out a few caches on some backroads some cars in a Bush Bash we coming towards us we pulled off for a cache and before re-entering the dirt road, we watched a few go past
Then onto the CSIRO Parkes Observatory, which had a part to play in the Apollo 11 first man on moon expedition. It was also the feature of the movie The Dish

Shows the size of that Dish with Linda standing so far away and the base being three stories high.
