Let's Ride! (Vietnam)

Dalat, Vietnam
I chuckle at it's long neck and the absolutely hilarious head sitting on top. It can weigh up to 350 lbs and stand over 6 ft tall. Today I want to ride this animal, the ostrich!

My tour guide, Mr Dung (pronounced Yun), took me to see the old train station in Da Lat today . It was opened in 1938 but was abandoned during the Vietnam War. It was reopened in 1990 with limited service. It is mainly a tourist attraction now. The station itself is known for it's unique archetectural style.

You can buy a ticket on the wood-burning steam train and travel to a small village in the countryside. The train makes the trip about 5 times each day.

We also visited the Van Hanh Pagoda where there is a 79 foot high Buddha statue. There are a lot of green gardens and lush palm trees, but what I enjoyed was the great view from the top of the mountains where the statue sits.

The Valley of Love was out next stop. It's popular with Vietnamese newlyweds, with it's rolling hills, lakes and beautiful gardens. The kids like the 'western' cowboys with their fake guns and tall hats. It was a wonderful visit and very calming place to spend time. There are plenty of places to picnic or swing in a hammock to pass the time . Or, hire a paddle boat to play around the lake for a while, if you choose.

I don't know that much about embroidery but we visited an embroidery factory that had some fantastic looking embroidered pictures for hanging on the wall.

The Prenn waterfalls have a lot more to it than just the waterfall, although it would be worth the visit if that's all there was. The small creeks and lakes in the green forest attract a lot of visitors.

There is a walkway underneath the waterfall that is fun to walk down. Standing underneath the fall and listening and watching it fall is exciting.

You can ride an elephant here also. But, I have spent several days riding elelphants in the Thailand jungles and it was on the elephant, not in a chair strapped to the elephant, so I won't ride here.

But, I mount the ostrich and off I go. It a stop and go ride, with the trainers running alongside to make it run. You hold on and lean backwards to make it go faster. I couldn't get Mr. Dung to ride with me, though. It was a hoot for sure. If you get a chance to ride one someday, be sure to do it. These birds are used to humans and are well trained to give rides. I couldn't help but wish the bird would get excited and run away through the trees with me, but it didn't happen.
