Arles on our own

Arles, Provence, France
Today started cloudy and some rain. Part of our group went to Nimes, but we wanted to have a quiet day. I spent the morning having a long breakfast and updating this blog. Dorothy, Paul and Maija went for a walk.

Since it was still raining, we decided to eat lunch in the hotel, and then Dorothy and I went to the spa . We didn't do any treatments but we used the pool, which was really a big hot tub, and very relaxing. Glad I bothered to bring my suit along.

By the time we finished at the spa, the sun was out. The 4 of us went for a lovely walk down by the Rhone and then finished with more rose for happy hour in our garden.

We had a group dinner at La Galoubet, a very quaint restaurant not far from the hotel. There was no menu in advance as they use whatever is fresh that day and it was fantastic. For an appetizer, I had the pasta which looked like one big ravioli and was filled with cheese and peas and topped with clams and mussels. My main course was guinea fowl with a sauce and beautiful fresh vegetables. Paul had an interesting appetizer...a soft boiled egg with leeks. Better than it sounds! And the sea bass. They put big bowls of fluffy, buttery mashed potatoes and home made french fries (always a good bet in France) on the table. Dessert was a delicious chocolate creation.

All in all, a wonderful, relaxing day.

I really like this hotel, from small things like a makeup mirror in the washroom to the spa. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The garden for drinks in the afternoon is a quiet haven. One of the sitting areas is right under a glass ceiling so this morning when it was rainy, I just sat there and it was nice and bright.

Rainy in the AM and sunny in the afternoon, around 20F.
