Villefranche-sur-Mer, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azu, France
Today we went to Eze Village which is another medieval perched Village two train stops away from Villefranche. We decided to take the bus, for the experience, and was it ever! When the 100 Bus arrived (which goes from Nice to Menton on the Italian border), it was packed with people so we thought we wouldn't be able to board. But the driver opened the back door and we squeezed on....Paul with his back to the door and he had to be careful not to fall out each time it opened. But it was free...there was no way you could pay. It's only 1.50 Euros anyway.
From Eze sur Mer we had to take another bus up the mountain to the village, with many hairpin turns .

It is a lovely town with the typical narrow streets with fabulous views. At the very top is the Jardin Exotique, a garden full of cacti and succulents from the Mediterranean area, Africa and the Americas. There are beautiful sculptures done by one artist but I didn't get his name. They are all of beautiful women done in pink stone. I will have to do some research.

For lunch we had the most delicious 'crepe. That's what they were called but have never seen anything like it. They were flat, not rolled and crispy on the bottom. Ours had ham, cheese, onion and a little cream, but the filling was very thin. The tastiest lunch we have had in France.

To get back down to Eze sur Mer, where we wanted to catch the train home, we decided to take the walking path. OMG...there were signs for NO SANDALS, and they weren't kidding. It took one hour, one thousand rocky stairs, and gravelly ups and downs to get to the bottom . We saw people going UP and I can't imagine it!

Once at the train station we couldn't find the office to buy the ticket so we went into the adjacent Tourist Information and she told us to use the machines. As we walked away she asked us where we were going and then said there was a problem with the trains and she hadn't seen one in quite a while. Thank God we talked to her or we would still be sitting on the train platform, tickets in hand! Made our way back to the bus stop and luckily it was fairly empty.

For dinner we went to La Grignotiere, on our street just down the road. The owner is a tall thin woman who is so funny with her mannerisms and joking. With that French accent it was just hilarious. And very good food!

It was a cool and mostly cloudy day, a high of about 16 C.
