HIGHLIGHTS Tues 31 Dec: La Fortuna

La Fortuna, Province of Alajuela, Costa Rica
Today was an "action day" with pure adrenaline. Desafío Adventure Company's 'Mambo Combo’ where the morning was the Lost Canyon Adventures Canyoneering (Rappelling) or us Kiwis call it abseiling down four drops. The second drop was 45 metres and the best was left till last at a mere 72 metres free falling most of the way. Plus a down-climb some amazing waterfalls and river trace along a pristine, rainforest canyon.

Two extras were thrown in. First was to bomb or jump into the creek bed and the second we sat down on the river bed like a train one behind the other. One of the guides was at the top lying down across the water flow making a human dam. Then once we were all in place he would release the water and down it came!

In the afternoon was white water rafting on the class 2-3 Río Balsa. A day with the perfect blend of whitewater and wildlife, fun, rolling rapids and vibrant jungle.

The day included a cooked morning tea / snack, fresh pineapple and watermelon break during the rafting then another home cooked hot lunch of traditional fare. The plate was a leaf on a wooden platter! If you didn't want "rice and beans" then the other option was "beans and rice"!
