Carnarvon, Home of the Dish

Carnarvon, Western Australia, Australia
We left Warroora Station reluctantly, but at least Bob and Deb also packed up that morning and followed us out. We had decided to head to Carnarvon for an overnight on our way to the Shark Bay World Heritage Area. Carnarvon was an easy 2 hour drive and why go past a perfectly good town? Bob and Deb, however, were intent on pushing onward a little further towards Denham where we would meet them in a day or two.

Carnarvon is the home to "The Dish", a communications dish which was a vital part of the first Moon landing . That dish has long been retired, however, it and it's control centre have been reborn as a museum, and one very worth visiting. We spent a few hours there with the interactive exhibits such as a replica Apollo capsule in which three people can lay to experience takeoff. There are also many static displays, great reading and a cinema showing the history of the Cararvon dish as well as the story of space travel to date.

Another overnighter for us, after the Dish we did some shopping at Woolworths then bought a dozen oysters and a kilo of prawns at the fish co-op as Carnarvon has a large fishing fleet. The seafood was excellent, we enjoyed our stay!
