MY TRIP STARTS HERE!



FIRST DAY

It is 6 .10 when the plane takes off. It is Sunday the 25th October, and it is cloudy.

Luckily by the time I leave the house the rain has stopped so it is no need to call a radio taxi. We set the clocks one hour back as from tonight, so I am lucky gaining one hour's sleep.

I am on board the plane right now after the check in, heading for Larnaca airport.

It is the first time I had to double and triple check the contents of my luggage. I hate carrying much but since I am flying to Cyprus the climate is very different here.

Yesterday it was 33degrees while in Athens it was cloudy and it rained a lot both in the day but during the evening as well.

At the other end of the seats there is a guy sleeping. There are many empty seats it is true, but I thought not to change my seat. So this guy up here dressed as a cowboy, is enjoying his sleep with his mouth open and he is snoring so loudly that I want to go over and punch him .

The flight is approximately one hour and twenty minutes, from Athens Venizelos airport to Larnaca, and we flew passed the islands of Mykonos, Santorini and the island of Rhodes. Rhodes island is half the way to Larnaca!

There are clouds beneath, and the sun is rising fast.

The way the sun shines through the clouds makes the flight more and more interesting, and the view through the small plane windows is spectacular. I wish I were an artist and know how to draw all these shapes and colours I see from up here!

Looking out at the clouds I get the most incredible pictures of expensive paintings! What a beauty!

There is an announcement from the pilot informing us that in about 25 minutes we are descending. The flight is so short that the crew barely has any time to serve breakfast, and then go round with the duty free goods .

The weather is terrific in Larnaca…..pity that I got everything but my swimming suit!

I have the feeling that we are descending now, so I will probably stop here.

I plan to get advantage of this 8 day trip, travel a lot, take many photos, and write everything down in detail.

From the moment we reach the coasts of Cyprus, it is just 10 minutes before landing.

The plane flies over Limassol first, and then to Larnaca.

Ok….I have to stop here. It is 7.20 am and the temperature outside 20 degrees.

First moments in Larnaca.



I am driven from the airport, home by my sister and mum was expecting me at the doorstep . Hugs and kisses, and mum as always, is asking me again and again what I wish to eat. She has all sorts of sweets and food in the house, and she is ready to prepare anything you ask for. Her hobby is cooking actually, and most of the time she is watching and copying all sorts of recipies from TV programmes.

I remember my poor dad was always on a diet and complaining that all the time she is making something new! This hobby of hers has become a passion for her now, and I believe this gives her life. Her kitchen is full of everything!



Although I want to get advantage of these 8 days on the island, I feel a bit sleepy, and decide to have some sleep first, before I get to see friends and relatives.             . I rest for some hours, and in the afternoon I arrange to meet one of my best cousins Angela.

She drives me downtown, and then to the nearby village called Kiti to get some nice photos of a real famous church of the 11th century, which I will write details in another entry .



It is already late in the evening, I want to get some sleep as tomorrow will be a full day of walking through the whole city. I plan to give much info firstly from Larnaca, with tips and advice for travelers who plan to visit this beautiful island of Cyprus.



I have already found a spot where I can have free internet access while in the city.

It is called Hobo Café, and I am told that many people like me, take their laptops and go out there where they have access to internet for free.
