Christmas and Winter Arrival

Sunday, December 25, 2011
Daegu, South Korea

On Dec 21 which marks the start of winter and is the shortest day it is tradition to eat Patjuk which is a sweet bean rice porridge. We had it for lunch at school but it was quite sweet and felt more like a dessert than a main course meal

This year winter is about 5 or more degrees higher than it was last year when I kept hearing it was the coldest winter in years. Last year we had daytime highs of close to zero and we even got snow flurries which settled on the ground. This winter we have daytime highs ranging of about +7 although the occasional day has gone as low as +3. Seoul however is much colder than Daegu and their daytime highs are closer to or below zero.

There are some christmas lights up around town. Here are some from Chilgok where I live. The nicest diplays I've seen are the new Hyundai Dept Store downtown but I didnt go with my camera.

Happy Christmas Everyone !
