The first Sunday in June each year is a charity bike run on the Gardiner/DVP highways from the CNE to the 401 and back. I have participated almost annually since 2004.
During lockdown in the "wisdom" of Public Health this was stopped even though everyone would be distanced on their bikes and needed physical activity staying at home. Also the Heart & Stroke Foundation which previously ran this as the Ride for Heart decided to give it up and has now been taken over by the Baycrest Foundation as the Bike for Brain Health.
I had a long chat with the Heart & Stroke Foundation last year that it was a very poor decision to give up their highest profile fundraiser. He agreed but the decision was out of his control.
I live next to the highway so can just sneak on but they would always flag me each year and it wastes time going to the starting point and winding thru the start lines.
Also I broke my camera biking in Ottawa so this was a way to test my old camera from 2014 to see how it operates and why I stopped using it. It is actually more powerful than my Nikon Coolpix I had been using since but the shutter does not open and close properly
The 25km route turns back at Bloor St and Bayview loop. I always do the 50km route which runs up to York Mills just before highway 401.
There is an incline as you head north on the DVP. However on the reverse there are declines heading south as you do the return leg back
They did make an announcement of how many people were participating but I forget. There is a min $125 fundraising goal in addition to the registration fee which increases up to event day.
