Glasgow Police Museum, Scotland, United Kingdom
About a block or two from my hotel was the Glasgow Police Museum which had free entry. I was resting in my hotel room for a bit having finally been able to check in after 2pm and I think there was a light rain shower that I wanted to let pass. The hotel is in the redevelopment quarter of Merchant City which has many grand buildings which used to be the commercial hub of the centre at the height of the city
The Police Museum was a couple of streets away and you have to buzz to be let in. The museum is on the second floor of the building
Retired Police Officer volunteers are on hand for explanation and they asked if I had any connection to any Police force as they seem to be some of the visitors they get from other jurisdictions
Glasgow, not London, was the first city to have a Police force after the first Act in the Country was passed.
The main room is a wraparound history of Police forces in the UK and their evolution.
The second smaller and more interesting room has a collection of uniforms, caps, helmets, and badges from every Policy force around the world.
Leaving must of the district of Merchant City is still undergoing redevelopment to repurpose many of the historic buildings and find new uses
I ended up exploring the sporting goods stores and ending up at St Enoch shopping centre for lunch. I also found out my hotel did bike rentals which would save time tomorrow as I had found a bike rental online much further away. They also had a movie room where people were gathering to watch a Euros football game but I was too tired and went to watch it in my room
