Arriving late in Inverness after 3pm due to all the train delays from Edinburgh I was very behind schedule. I was expected to arrive 1.30pm, spend the afternoon in Inverness and head to Loch Ness. Now I had to make my way directly to Loch Ness or it would be a wasted trip as I leave to continue further north in the morning.
Leaving the train station was a tourist information office. These were common when I started travelling 20 years ago but seem to be a dying breed now as all information can be found online. They explained the bus route and schedule. They also purchased a bus ticket for me as they said they can sell out.
The next bus was at 4.05pm so that gave me about 45 mins to get to my hotel and leave my bags. It was easy to get to across the river so now I didnt have to lug my bags all the way to Loch Ness and back
I had whatever time I had now to see what I could of Inverness as when I returned it would probably be evening even though it stays light till about 11pm.
The churches had all closed for the day though there were still visitors walking around taking pictures.
There was a Victorian arcade that will lead me to a block from the bus station
Bus 917 or 919 will alternate each hour to get to Loch Ness. The 4.05pm bus was the 917 and the online ticket I purchased was 9.50 pounds return. It would get to Drumnadrochit at 4.34pm and Urquhart Castle at 4.40pm
With long daylight hours there were still visitors making the trip out.
We drive along Loch Ness river with becomes Loch Ness. Drumnadrochit was a tourist village nowhere near the Loch so I stayed on the bus for Urquhart Castle which was the next stop
