1452. The Poet’s Park and a Skytrain

Oeiras, Estremadura, Portugal
Day 181
2 hrs, 5 .0 kms

In Oeires I'm met with an odd sight: a brand new elevated sky train rising above a brand new boulevard that takes you from the lower neighborhoods to the upper neighborhoods.

Elsewhere this might look like a cool, ambitious project to help solve the transportation problems. But here in Oeires? it just looks like a huge waste of money. There's very little traffic along the road, and no need to build a pricey elevated train above it--if any train at all.

Considering the huge hole of debt Portugal has dug itself into, this scene looks downright disturbing.

At the top of the hill is a a shopping mall and a large park (which also looks pricey to maintain). It's called the Poet's Park, and this one I must say I do enjoy it despite its extravangance. The scuptures are pretty cool--there's one of a giant man's head and two women sitting in the brain. I'm doing a video clip of that one, dedicating it to several of my friends that it reminds me of!
