Arachova, Greece and Mount Parnassos

Arachova, Greece
No history lesson today!  Leaving Galaxidi, we drove east to and right through Delphi (it was far too congested with tour buses and visitors) and found ourselves high in a mountain village called Arachova.  There we booked into a hotel called the Aegli Hotel, which means Glorious Hotel.  It surely is a glorious location just above the village of Arachova.
Having our room set for a couple of nights, and as it was too early to eat a late lunch, we drove up, up, up into the mountains above.  It's called Mount Parnassos, which has many ski resorts and chalets and 2 ski hills at the top of the mountain.  As you can see, it's way bigger than the ski hills in Brookvale!!  Maybe one day, Julia, Pacey and Meredith (probably Caleb at that time, too) will come skiing here.  We even found some snow to make a snowball.  The mountain is 2,427 metres high - that's 2 1/2 kilometres high!!
Back down in the village of Arachova, we walked around a bit, and then found a place for lunch.  It, too, was busy with visitors and locals and most of them were out eating, enjoying the sunshine and their friends.   The air is much cooler here +15, so everyone is wearing long sleeve jackets, pants and some are even wearing fur coats!  Not us, though.
Back to our glorious hotel for a sauna, reading and soon bed.  Tomorrow, we hope to visit Delphi.  The man at the hotel desk also gave us a hint.  He said when all the tour buses are at the ancient ruins, go to the museum, and when all the tour buses are at the museum, go back to the site.
He also shared that this is a very busy weekend in Arachova.  It's the feast day of St. George (who slayed the dragon).  He said to join the villagers at the church at 5:30pm tomorrow evening, where all the men and women will be dressed in traditional Greek dress.  Then, we can follow them down to the village square where there will be a big street dance at 9pm.  And, get this, there's another day of roast lamb.  That's 3 weekends in a row.  He said just to sit down at any restaurant and we can join the party, sing and dance and eat roast lamb.  And the celebration lasts for 4 days.  Does the party ever end??
