We enjoyed our breakfast on the balcony. Our view today is the mountains, not the Mediterranean Sea, but it is still beautiful. We saw a goat herder with his goats halfway up the mountain, the tinkle of their bells giving away their location.
Mid morning, we drove north along the coast and found Lake Vouliagmeni. It isn't quite hot springs, at least the kind that we know. They call this lake a geological phenomenon. The lake has both saltwater and underwater thermal springs which keep the water at a cool 23 degrees, while the air was 28 degrees before noon.
As we waded into the water, dozens of tiny black fish came tickling around our toes. In the pamphlet handed out, they're called Garra Rufa or Spa Fish. "The indigenous and natural inhabitants of the lake take on the task of relieving your skin of its dead cells and offer you a relaxing massage." Sounds like a fancy way to say that the fish are eating all the dead skin off our feet.
But, it was a really nice way to spend a few hours, relaxing, swimming, relaxing and swimming again.
On the drive back to our apartment, we just had to stop to take a few pictures of the glorious blue-green waters in the coves along the coastline. They really are spectacular, and again, the camera never does it justice.
