Our first day in Iceland!

Selfoss, Iceland
We arrived at Keflavik 1 hour late due to our flight being held back because the previous day the flight had been cancelled all together due to mechanical problems. Even got to sleep for 2 hours on the flight!!

Our first true adventure in Iceland was getting the rental car. In the arrivals area there was the usual assortment of rental car companies (Budget, Avis, Hertz...), but did we rent from one of the established companies??-NO! We got our car from a company called 'Sad Cars' (when Pixie heard this she said that you should never rent from a company called 'sad' cars, well we soon found out why).

We got picked up in a van and taken to the rental location, discovering that it was an old hazardous waste depot. Our car was also old, with 207000 km on it!!! It also had no bumper, no rear wiper, and plenty of bumps and bruises! But it runs!! While waiting for our car we noticed a missing car poster on the wall for one of their rental cars! They simply explained to us that they had somehow 'lost' the car haha!

The first big stop was the blue lagoon! An incredible geothermal spa connected to a geothermal power plant. We rubbed silicon sand all over ourself and soaked in the mineral rich water for 3 hours. Ahh... How relaxing!

After leaving the blue lagoon we stopped at the Seltun geothermal park, which was full of bubbly mud pots and stinky sulfur pools (which Pixie was not fond of and spent the time with her nose plugged) :-)

Home tonight is a lovely 3rd floor loft room in a guest house in Selfoss. It's only 7pm and we're desperately trying to stay awake for a while longer! More adventures to come!...
