Day trip to Gozo Island

Gozo, Malta
Woke up this morning with no clear plan for the day. Went for a lazy breakfast at a bar/cafe we have been frequenting for a couple of days - maybe inspiration will come to us over a bad cup of coffee. Sitting at our table, looking out over the harbour nothing was coming to mind. Watched a couple of buses trundle by - buses! Why not catch a local bus and just see where it takes us? So, finished breakfast and walked down to the bus stop area. Perused the map showing bus routes, decided to catch the No.222 bus which would take us up to the northern end of Malta. Google maps indicated it would be about an hours trip. Maybe stop off on the way? As it turned out, nothing was piquing our interest as the bus made its way northwards. We ended up going all the way to Cirkewwa, the ferry terminal to get across to Gozo Island. Day visit to Gozo? Why not, seemed as good a thing to do as anything. As it happened, ferry was leaving just as arrived at the terminal, so off we went to Gozo.
The trip across to Gozo was fairly quick, about twenty minutes. Approaching the harbour gave us glimpses of the sights of Gozo, in particular we could see spires and domes of the main town on the island, Victoria.
Mad rush by about 50 people for the bus when we got off the ferry (Victoria was about 5km away). 10 minute bus ride into Victoria. A quick web search indicates that Gozo Island has a lot to offer to the sightseer. Probably too much to see in one day so we limited our time to Victoria. And well worth it too. Although it became apparent that much of Victoria caters to the tourist trade, it does nonetheless retain much of its charm. More than enough to fill in 3 or 4 hours of sightseeing.
