A walk in the park

Augustenborg, Denmark
Yet another drizzly, breezy day but with the promise that things would improve later. By the time we’d showered and had breakfast the rain had more or less ceased so we decided to walk into the town to find a supermarket. Last night I said I would make some sort of curry and indeed I did but this turned out to be rather different to that which I intended. My plan was to use some of the mince we had and use the other half of it for a chilli tomorrow night. However, when I extricated said mince from the bowels of our cool box (a top – opening fridge) it was a peculiar colour and looked distinctly past it’s sell by date, although it wasn’t. Not wanting to chance it, I reverted to a vegetable, indeed vegan curry, using a packet of Thai chilli mix that we’d bought in 2016, but still smelled OK and I must say the the curry was very tasty. Anyway, the reason for that little aside was that we had no meat left, hence the reason to find a supermarket to stock up. We found a Superbrugsen (Danish supermarket chain) about 20 minutes’ walk away which was more than adequate for our needs so with that, we returned to the boat.
We’d decided to stay here one more day in order to explore the grounds of the nearby palace which are a public park and did so after lunch. The walk takes you on the opposite bank of the fjord and parallel to the channel that we followed coming in. There were gorgeous mature limes and beech trees in the park and it was very pleasant indeed walking under them. One of the paths we took ended up at a swimming area with a long pontoon going out into the sound – evidence that the sea would get warmer sometime soon!  Further on there was a wild camping area, with a designated spot for having your wood fire, quite a nice idea. This marked the furthermost point of the grounds and we reversed our steps, enjoying every moment out in the now warming air. The biting chill has suddenly disappeared, leaving us with much more tolerable conditions.
Back on board we dug out the ice-maker to celebrate the last day of May with some G&T’s with ice and to toast Julie’s sister, Cherry – happy birthday Cherry! Tonight, with new mince, we’re having one of our on-boat favourite meals, Tacos with a filling made from mince and spices that the Taco kit provides and a simple salad and grated cheese mix – we don’t bother with guacamole and sour cream. Tomorrow we leave for the last port for us on Als, the small harbor called Dyvig at the north-western point of the island.
