The Short Pathway to the Orchards near Ambelikos

My friends …actually acquaintances, are touring around Paphos and we shall meet in the evening .

It is so relaxing when I come here in this peaceful and magic place.

I leave all my things in the room ….luckily I am not going to unpack as I am here for just one night to see my friend and tomorrow I am heading for Larnaca.

What I honestly want to do, but I am not right now, is first take the very short trail that is next to the hotel and walk all the way to the river.
My first priority however at this point is to check my post, send a couple of messages, make one or two phone calls and then turn the laptop off for the next 3 or 4 days!

Time for coffee and I join my friend in the kitchen where we make the plans of the day.

I leave immediately after coffee and walk all the way to the river just as I had planned it. A month back when I was here the beginning of April the whole place looked different. Now again I have another picture – a very different one. Only if we compare the two entries you can see what I mean. (Have a look if you wish).

My God! It is unbelievably beautiful, and I am sad that I am leaving tomorrow!

My pictures speak for the beauty all around, and I honestly wish I could lift you the aroma in the air that varies depending on the place I stand . It is incredible!

As I come back I stop and speak to some people I find working in their orchard. I tell them how lucky they are to be living in such a beautiful environment with this unbelievably fresh and full of aroma air that covers the whole village spreading all over!

What I get is a smile instead, and they tell me that their work is hard and very tiring. Their orchards need much work and there are days when they have to get up at dawn to do the work. Of course I can understand them but still I feel they are lucky that the ground and orchards belong to them and they get their own products. At least they know what they eat.

(The area is popular for its delicious apples, cherries, pears and all sorts of other fruit). On a previous entry in my first trip here, I posted a video about the well known –lountza and choiromeri….remember?  http://www.travelpod.com/travel-blog-entries/greekcypriot/7/1298848087/tpod.html

When I return Aki is waiting for me and we drive off immediately leaving behind Potamitissa and heading towards Limassol. The ride is pleasant with the company of my friend, and after he finishes the work he has, we get some lunch in a restaurant with authentic Cypriot cuisine followed by a long walk while Aki becomes my guide for a while telling me about things I don't really know, showing me beautiful buildings and places which I have to see on my coming trip .

It is late afternoon when we return and the ladies are back. They are all excited as it is the first time they visit the island and Aki helped them a lot with directions and the correct guidance. They have already seen so many things they tell me but this place out here is like returning home. I am glad they feel the same because this is how I feel myself.

Aki is now busy in the kitchen but as we talk he brings us a bottle of red wine and several glasses. "Cheers to you Aki! We drink for better days and more travel". When friends are around there is always a glass of wine or something extra in the menu from the owner, but now it is a whole bottle of wine a treat for us.

There is much excitement during dinner, much laughter and giggles! When my friend finishes with his other guests he joins us. He helps the ladies with tips for tomorrow’s visit to Kakopetria and Omodos.

What a wonderful evening with acquaintances and friends in such a beautiful place!! I really feel so comfortable here.
