My stroll to the Aphrodite Baths

After my afternoon coffee I set off for a short stroll towards the Baths of Aphrodite . I have been here several times in the past and I know for sure that it is a must see spot.

So, join me if you wish and I will show you around!

The spot I am visiting is situated on the beautiful Akamas Peninsula very near two circular walking trails which I plan to cover in spring. The Adonis and the Aphrodite trails. Friends tell me that it will take me 3 hours to cover this distance of 7.5 Kms, and spring is the best season to do this.

Before entering the path and Botanical gardens leading to the 'Baths of Aphrodite' I stop for a couple of pictures at the imposing rock which can be seen from miles away.

I enter the gate and follow the path to the cave with the very old Fig Tree. The path is beautiful and I see much progress since the last time I was here. It is easily accessible and there is a fence to protect people from falling .

The legend says that Aphrodite the goddess of Love and Fertility met her lover here - Adonis. They were instantly bewitched by each other’s extraordinary beauty. Of course I am not planning to tell you the legend but they say that she used to bathe in the cave under the shelter of this big fig tree found here today. Of course nobody is allowed to enter the cave or bathe. Tradition says that if you bathe in the water you will be given eternal youth.

It did not take me more than 7 minutes, probably less to come to the cave probably because I walk fast. It is indeed breathtaking with the lush vegetation all around.

The trail from here takes you to Fontana Amorosa which is 8 Kms away and is at the end of the Akamas Peninsula. It is a trail I want to cover and friends told me that I will enjoy an incomparable view of unspoilt nature beauty throughout the way. People who want to join me can get in touch so we can arrange covering these trails in spring.

I decide to walk a little bit further up for some pictures and then return all the way back for my late afternoon dip. Of course on the way back I walk through the small botanical garden, climb to a higher point and get some beautiful shots of the bay.
