Larnaca by Night in May

Larnaca, Cyprus
Time spent with the kids.

                     Larnaca by Night

I see familiar smiling faces and the kids run to hug and kiss me . The first thing they ask from me is to read them stories from their books.

This is what I expected anyway and I am not surprised at all. After lunch when Mum and the couple go to get some rest I get in the bedroom and the four of us on a bed start playing. I tell them different things to make them laugh and also read stories from their books.

The afternoon coffee revives me a little after all this reading and playing, and I wonder how come the kids still feel so lively and not sleepy at all. I was about to collapse before coffee! I could not keep my eyes open to read another word and felt exhausted. And then to my relief the phone rings and some friends of theirs are coming shortly to pick the whole family and take them out for a ride!!!

I am surprised how fast they all got ready and they are soon outside waving me goodbye. They are returning to Athens tomorrow so we shall meet in 4 or 5 days .

After all that noise, laughter and giggles there is silence now in the whole house. It is Mum and me and we expect my sister to come. My dear cousin Angela drops by to see me and a couple of friends later on, but after a call I have from my sister telling me that she cannot make it, I decide to return to the hotel. It is getting dark outside but there is no problem. It is safe to walk in Cyprus. I kiss my Mum goodnight and set off. We shall meet again in 2 days.

It is indeed an unbelievably beautiful night, a night that you cannot resist, but stay out. How can I get to my room without having a stroll first and take some photos of the beautiful coastal Palm Tree Avenue with the many restaurants, pubs, and café bars!

I go up to the room just to get my camera and I am out again.

The two or three café bars in the neighborhood are full of young people who seem to enjoy this exceptional beautiful night with the company of friends . There is music coming to my ears while passing close by the café bars, and the traffic is similar to that of a weekend, and it is only Tuesday and a working day tomorrow. It seems nobody wants to get in.

Moments like these make me feel like a tourist and not as a local in my hometown. If my friends in Larnaca saw me right now walking all alone with just my camera and not even carrying my handbag would think I am crazy. But of course this is what makes us so different. It is so beautiful out here that I take two rounds and still I wish it wasn't so late to continue walking and enjoying this beautiful night. It is midnight though and time for me to get some sleep even though I don’t feel I am tired at all.

The hotel is almost full, and the moment I enter I find a group of tourists checking in. I greet Larry goodnight and get to my room. Tomorrow is another promising day!

(Disappointed with the quality of the photos I have taken)!!!
I really want to apologize.

what a beautiful city at night Popi and I see you have the staple American diet food KFC and Mcdonalds as back up choices to what looks like a lot of choices as to where to go for dinner
