Good morning Edinburgh!
I have all morning to spend here in this city so I get a very early start.
I check out and store my bags at the hotel. After walking clear across town, I find the restaurant I chose for breakfast - they have eggs Benedict with Scottish smoked salmon. It was delicious! So worth the walk...
Then on to visit the Edinburgh Castle. Knowing this is a very busy place, I try to arrive as close to opening as possible. I have skip the line tickets. I think everyone else arrived at opening as well ... the line snakes way down the street. However, as soon as the place opens, the people file in and scatter. Inside it does not feel crowded at all. Only in the crown jewels exhibit are there any sense of there being many people. The castle is amazing with stunning views all around. Very interesting history. It's just wonderful.
After the castle, I stop inside the cathedral before stopping in shops along the way back to the hotel. At the hotel, it's already lunch time and I have a little while before I need to head to the train station for my train to Glasgow. I have a little lunch in the outdoor cafe at the hotel. It's all very lovely.
They call for a taxi to the train station b/c I don't feel like dragging my bags... it's rather hot. At the train station, there are public service announcements regarding the heat wave, warning people to keep their old people and pets indoors and to be drinking water. It's all of 89 degrees and not humid at all. It's all a matter of what folks are used to...
