The train from Toronto to Windsor takes about 4 hours, stopping periodically along the way. Leaving at almost 8:00 PM, I am scheduled to arrive in Windsor, Canada just before midnight. My plan is to sleep the entire journey.... I’m exhausted from being awake almost 24 hours now since I last woke in Glasgow, Scotland.
The train I board is pretty much ancient. It’s oversized in every way which means there is plenty room for luggage and my seat is roomy. There is even an overhead bin that is easily large enough for my baby bag. I could even toss my purple bag up there had it not been 50 pounds - no need to lift that up above my head.
Pretty much as the train pulls out of the station and the ticket checker lady goes past, I’m out like a light. I have my sleeping eye mask so it’s not trouble to doze off as the train rocks back and forth. During this train ride, I wake now & again as the train stops at various stations. Once the train stops to wait for bad weather (t-storms, I would think) to pass before moving on.... each time, I fall straight back to sleep without delay.
My train pulls into the Windsor train station about 30 minutes late because of the weather delay. Everyone gets off at this station as it’s the last one. I grab my bags and down to the platform I go.... I follow all of the other passengers to the parking lot from the platform. There are many people waiting to pick up passengers. No Jim. In the parking lot, I find our van. No Jim. Then back at the station building, I see Jim inside. He was waiting there. Bags in van, there is one last step before home.
We cross the US-Canada border through the tunnel with no wait and no difficulties at customs. On through, Jim drives me the 15 minutes or so to our house. Still quite sleepy and being that it’s after 1:00 am in the morning, I’m off to sleep in my own bed.
In the morning, I will wake rested and reminisce about my five wonderful weeks of travel and exploration this summer.
