It's Saturday and we have a booking for a tour of the Cointreau Distillery in Angers, France !
Angers is a city not 2 hours or so west of Vouvray.
After enjoying another wonderful breakfast at Le Gaimont we head out in the car to our tour of the Cointreau Distillery. This delicious orange liqueur has a long history here in France in this town of Angers. The tour is fantastic and very informative. We are the only ones on the tour today ... we see all the ins & outs of how Cointreau is made here in Angers. This is the only place in the world where Cointreau is made! The distillery smells so amazingly delicious as this liqueur is made with both bitter and sweet dried orange peels. It's all very orange and very yummy!
After the tour, we get a private tasting in this beautiful bar area. The gal explains about the different kinds of Cointreau they make at the moment ... regular, blood orange and noir. We get to taste them all! She then teaches us how to make two different cocktails, the Cointreau Fizz and the White Lady. Cindy and Holly get hands-on and mix up the drinks. They are dinvine!
After we shop for a bit in the Cointreau store, we head out to the car and drive into the city of Angers. We find a place to park and walk into the centre of town. We are having lunch here and find the gluten-free place pretty easily. Then we head over to the Angers castle and stop by the cathedral on the way. This city is amazing and pretty fun for a visit.
Back at Le Gaimon in Vouvray, we decide to have another relaxing evening on the estate. So nice!
