This Airtransat flight from Glasgow, Scotland to Toronto, Canada was as a flight should be - uneventful. I rested for a little while taking a small nap. I watched a movie, A Star is Born. Thanks to Patrick (the pilot) for the advice to download the Airtransat entertainment app on my ipad before flying so I could choose what movie to watch since this plane only had the common screens for movies.
When we landed in Toronto around 3:15 PM, I was expecting to use the kiosks for customs and immigration to breeze through. I also downloaded the app for that so I had the form ready with the code to scan... but all the kiosk machines were not working. So... there was a huge line that took about an hour to get through for passport and customs. No problems in any of the steps but just a huge number of people due to several flights that landed at the same time. Bummer.
But I have a 7:45 train time from Toronto Union Station downtown so I’m not in a hurry. Just getting very tired...
Once through all the customs/immigration & baggage claim, I’m so ready to sit down. I have to ride the UP express train from the airport to Union Station. It’s about a 25 minute ride.
Arriving at Union Station around 5:30, I have over 2 hours to wait....
I find the Union Chicken restaurant that I had found online while researching this trip. They have a seat for me and my bags at the bar. Here I find very good food and drink but at Canadian prices - yikes! I am used to the much lower European price points. Oh well.... back to reality. I enjoy a chicken sandwich with roasted sweet potato with a lavender mule which really just tastes lemon-y. My meal is delicious.
Then I wander around the station looking for a WC with a clean stall big enough for my luggage to come inside with me.... apparently this is a chore here at this station on a Sunday evening. Really I think I went to all of the WCs before I found one that was usable and I still had to leave my bags right outside the stall and go quick ! Not cool....
Waiting for my train. I’m just looking forward to my sleeping on the train.
