Good night sleep. Woke around 0700.
We visit Bodo, Ornes, Nesna and Sandnessjoen for roughly three quarters of an hour. Managed to get the Arctic marker.
Wished Tina a happy birthday, messaged Dad as well as Samantha and JJ. I decided to get a couple of days WiFi at a cost of $20 till we get back to Bergen.
Went to deck 7 to sit and catch up on everything over the past few days as we had no WiFi.
Torolv Kveldulvsons during lunch. Had lunch with Melva & Hugh and Pauline & David. Pretty good weather so far and notice that the snow is gradually disappearing fast on the islands but still a lot on the main island.
We stop at Bronnoysund for a couple of hours and get off. Brønnøysund is the southernmost city along the Helgeland Coast and in Nordland County, in addition to being the regional centre in Southern Helgeland. Many Norwegians associate the city of Brønnøysund with the Brønnøysund Business Registry.
Brønnøysund is a true coastal city and serves as a port of call for the Hurtigruten or Coastal Express ships, various other shipping traffic and a splendid guest harbour. It is not uncommon to encounter the southbound Hurtigruten ship when it stops here on any given afternoon.
As a regional centre, Brønnøysund also offers visitors a diverse selection of local shops.
The city is an excellent starting point for excursions to the island of Ylvingen (which was the filming location for the Norwegian TV series “Himmelblå” based on the BBC’s “Two Thousand Acres of Sky” series) and Vega with its UNESCO World Heritage Site. Brønnøy municipality is a part of the Trollfjell Geopark
We past the Arctic Circle marker and managed to get a photo of it.
We had the Captains Dinner this evening, meal was delightful. Everyone seem d to enjoy it for a change.
After dinner we headed off to Rorvik for half an hour’s walk. Still some shops open, lots of cars around too. It was nice to walk on paths and roads not covered with snow.
The coastal town of Rørvik is beautifully located along the shipping lane and serves as the administrative centre of Vikna municipality. Here, you can visit the Norveg Coastal Culture Centre and learn more about the culture and history of this coastline throughout 10,000 years.
The vast archipelago starts here and stretches further north along the coast. The authentic fishing village of Sør-Gjæslingan lies off the coast and was early in the last century the largest fishing village south of Lofoten.
A visit to the Norveg Coastal Culture Centre in Rørvik makes for an exciting way to become familiar with the coast and its culture and history. The unique building was built in 2004 and it was designed by the architecture firm of Gudmundur Jonsson.
As you drive over the Nærøysund bridge, the landscape unfolds before you and you are greeted by the coastal town of Rørvik. Further to the West lies an archipelago consisting of thousands of islands. You can take a trip by car or bicycle out toward Ytre Vikna and experience the quaint places and coastal landscape.
Many locals go for a walk down on the pier in Rørvik in the evening. That's when both the north- and southbound Coastal Express or "Hurtigruten" make a stop there.
