A day in Hong Kong

Hong Kong, China
This morning we took a brief tour of Hong Kong Island. Hong Kong is quite an amazing place: a small island full of sky scrapers, surrounded by sea traffic of all sorts. The plunging view from Victoria peak gives a breathtaking overview of this modern metropolis, where Western and Chinese cultures have overlapped for a hundred years. We saw a famous Man Mo temple that mixes Taoism and Buddhism. Built in the 1800s it is filled with the smoke of insence drifting from large coils that hang form the ceiling. It is also full of people coming and going to pray.

We visited the fishing port of Aberdeen, and had a chilly sampan tour. The tour was a good way to get an overview of this unique place.

This evening, we met Ma Ming Tak for dinner. Ma Ming Tak is a long-time member in Hong Kong, in 1971 the first member ever to be baptized in Hong Kong. We were not able to have dinner with the entire Ma family due their daughter Sophia being ill. We hope to see the rest of the family tomorrow.
