Doha, Doha, Qatar
Cousin Ian, who we had stayed with Sunday night after flying mid morn from NP, dropped us at AK airport round 11am Monday. Qatar Airways code share with One World which Qantas belong to as well, so our complimentary airport lounge in AK, prior to our 2.35pm departure, was Qantas. Nothing special, but was more “homely” than what we’re sitting in right now!
Qatar Airways business lounge is sooo big and glitzy, it’s really impersonal and almost lonely, but as Kevin pointed out it IS 4.20am.
We arrived here, Doha, Mon 10.40pm (NZ Tues 7.40am), checked into our complimentary hotel, Oryx Rotana, had a shower and 2hr snooze then went back to the airport to have a look around. Huge, a confusing assembly of every duty free you can think of. Shops, stalls, lounges, eateries etc. being early morn not very busy. Flights are NOT announced, so it’s extremely peaceful.
Flight from AK? We had seats in row5 business, the wall infront of us was the toilet. Seats behind us had stowage in the back of our seats and their TV attached above the stowage. Our screens were on an arm and had to be stowed on take off & landing and we lacked extra stowage - which we needed as complimentary pjs and vanity bags had to go somewhere. TIP: DONT settle for Row 5! Service was good, nice young staff.
