Mallaig, Scotland, United Kingdom
9.45am we were at Fort William station. The Jacobite Steam Train was waiting with 7 carriages in tow. Lukas had vibered us so it was good to chat to Helbeau & the boys, we walked them along the carriages to the train showing the boys the Harry Potter Express.
We were in Carriage G, the last one. We could hear people discussing how far in advance they had booked. You can book on line, I booked thru email on the 17th April and had trouble getting the seats that we did.
Two services a day in the summer, then one until the end of October. Then they run a Christmas one for a couple of weeks. It’s extremely popular, it is also a general public service to connect with the ferry to skye.
A couple from Adelaide were seated with us at our table, we shared some birthday cake with them, they were good company. The trip past quickly and we were in Mallaig in no time.
It was raining heavily by now and we did get our puffers quite wet, had a quick walk around the village then headed back to the train and our bottle of bubbles and cheese board.
On th3 return journey we had a couple from Salt Lake sitting with us, he is a biomedical engineer. Extremely interesting man, is involved with the reasearch and manufacture of prosthetics, hip and knee joints etc. The different materials used, ceramics, titanium etc. and bone grafting.
We had a very nice day, weather had cleared a little by the time we arrived back in Fort William, and we were back in our granny flat around 4.45pm.
