Today we went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast. After breakfast, we went back to the coach, picked up Molly and headed north east to check out the tunnel of trees that folks had recommended we see. The Tunnel of Trees is a 16-mile scenic road (M-119) that
begins in Harbor Springs and ends in Cross Village. This narrow road,
designated as a Scenic Heritage Route, traces an ancient Native American trail
along a spectacular bluff overlooking Lake Michigan. Bordered by a thick
hardwood forest that parts occasionally to offer glimpses of Lake Michigan.
From there we drove south to the Petoskey State Park where folks had told us that we might find some Petoskey rocks. These rocks are rocks that have small shellfish imbedded in them and have been ground smooth and round by the wave action of the lake. Shirley found a couple of them on the well scoured beach. Unfortunately, Molly didn't get any beach time as dogs are not allowed on the beach.
We then headed back toward the campground and stopped at King's Orchard roadside produce stand to pick up some fresh produce and a fresh baked three berry pie. After we got back to the coach, we grilled some chicken, served with a salad and side of the veggies, and later a piece of the pie from Kings. Nothing tastes better than fresh food.
