Today was the annual 50km Ride for Heart on the Gardiner and DVP highways which I have participated in seven times since 2005. This will be my 8th year.  
Unfortunately this morning there was steady drizzle when I woke up. As I bike 10km to work each way, sometimes in drizzle, I didnt think this would be a problem. Last year I biked to work from May - Sept. This year I started early from Apr and plan to bike to end of Oct as there is track work on the streetcar for one year and no service. 
Although I wore a rain jacket and hood I didnt think to wear rain pants. The pants I was wearing soaked in all the rain like a sponge and started frothing at the knees as I pumped air thru everytime I cycled.    
The route starts at the CNE grounds but as I live further west on the Gardiner and the highway was closed I was able to cycle from the on ramp by my place to the CNE and continue past the starting line on the Gardiner.  
It then goes north on the DVP highway. The 25km turnaround is on Bloor St while the 50km route goes up to York Mills then back down. Normally I do the 50km route but the rain was just miserable with my pants soaked, jacket and hood dripping. I turned around at the 25km point on Bloor St for the first time instead of going to York Mills. 
I really wasnt enjoying it this year and it almost wanted you never to do it again. I just wanted to get home and out of the rain. Luckily I was able to raise just over $250 in sponsorships. I biked 3 hrs from 730am to 1030am.
