Friday morning when our two day broker meetings were done the others were flying back to Toronto. I chose to stay till Sunday, pay for my own hotel two nites, and do some exploring.
Last nite we had been at the Just of Laughs festival which we insure hence the invite and visit to Montreal. This morning was the first time I had to sleep in a bit. After checking out I visited another company downtown close to the hotel.
Beside them is Square Dorchester. On one side is an Anglican Church and the impressive National Bank building.
I made my way across Rene Levesque blvd to the Concordia University dorm rooms where I would be staying. This was vacant student rooms rented out for the summer in a historic building. After our opulent $300/nite hotel my first instinct was to run out!
I met another broker nearby by Atwater station for lunch before having the rest of the day explore. I made my way east across rue Sainte-Catherines the main shopping street. It had impressive architecture.
Making my way back to Square Dorchester I wanted to visit the Cathedrale Marie-Reine du-Monde. It was an impressive Cathedral I've never paid attention to before on my earlier visits.
Making my way back along rue Sainte-Catherine I ended up back in the Just for Laugh festival area.
At the Place d'armes is the Musee de la Banque Montreal. Again something I've not gone inside on my previous visits. It had the old bank desks but unfortunately they will not allow photos for some reason.
The Basilique Notre-Dame de Montreal was opposite but this is the only church you had to pay to enter and had long crowds in July tourist season in the tourist district. Old Montreal is where I am most familiar and where most tourists usually visit.
After making it Place Jacques Cartier I got an ice cream and made my way back to my dorm rooms. At second glance and after a long day walking it had grown on me and felt more like home for the next two nites.
