Eurovision Grand Final - Pre Show

Kiev, Ukraine

Saturday night was the Eurovision Grand Final. Originally we couldnt buy tickets online and could only buy for the two Semi Finals. The plan was to watch on the big screen in the Eurovision Village in Maidan Square.

Per the prior entry Eurovision Village was crap and it had been raining heavy drizzle all day. Luckily ticketing had been such a fiasco I was able to buy two tickets to the Fan Zone for the Grand Final (see entry Eurovision Semi Final 1 - Pre Show).

Had we not had tickets my friend said to watch the show in the hotel. What was the point of coming to Kiev for Eurovision just to watch it on tv in your hotel room!! I would have stood in the rain with my hood on just for the experience.

We bought extra subway tokens so we wouldnt have to stand in line coming back. At the metro station when we got off they were selling flags. It would have been nice to get one for a country I was supporting but they only had Ukraine and countries that didnt interest me.

My friend didnt see the need to come this early and wanted to come later. I kept saying we are in the Fan Zone, there are no seats, we have to go early and stand in line to get a good spot or we will be in the back. It took coaxing to motivate him.

There was heavy drizzle and luckily the line moved quickly to let us into security. On our third night we were recognizing people we had seen before and met up with a guy from the Chernobyl tour yesterday. I also saw the same group of Israelis that had been sitting in front of me and were at St Sophia earlier today.

After waiting in the holding pen to get into the venue we ran to get our spots early in the line to get into the Fan Zone. Lucky I motivated my friend so early as the line quickly spread throughout the venue.

In front were a group of bearded queens with garlands around their head. They seemed to be breeding like rabbits as more bearded queens kept popping out of nowhere and joining their group.

Another queen behind us was getting quite annoyed and started complaining to them with me and my friend standing in the middle. The bearded queen claimed he was waiting in line for 2 hours when we had only been let in for maybe 15 mins.

The bearded queen dissed the rival queen and turned around infuriating the other queen. My friend was hoping the queens would all have a bitch fight so he could film it.  I didnt think it was worth arguing as once we get into the venue the space will all open up.

When they let us in we all rushed like crazy only to find there were three zones in the fan area and we were in the rear zone. As we were first we rushed up to the barrier and got spots next to the camera track so we could lean on it and put our bags down.

Other people were getting into the second zone ahead and it quickly filled up. I saw all the bearded queens and the rival queen all get into the middle zone. There was some kind of second wristband you needed which we didnt have so I dont know the rules for the different zones.

We had good spots against the railing so nobody's heads for taking pics. Too bad for the people behind us that were all crowded. Also the ratio was much higher men as these are the 'devoted fans' you always see on camera closest to the stage waving flags.

However because we were behind the camera track we would not be on tv.
