We were up this morning about 8 a.m. and walked down to breakfast. Sitting at a table covered with empty glasses, beer bottles, and ash trays full of cigarettes were three of the noisy “drunken” Irish group who were also staying at the hotel. They were very loudly rehashing the bar fight one of them (a young man) had been in earlier this week. The other two were family members in their 50s. After they left the Scottish couple we met last night made a side remark about “those Irish!” So funny!
After breakfast we decided to walk to Old Town to visit the Old Market. On our way we met Mike G. who was taking his morning walk on the beach and agreed to meet him and Emily for lunch about 1 p.m. After some twists and turns in the old part of the town we found the market which was full of lovely fruits and vegetables. Mike bought a box of strawberries and I bought some olive salad. We decided to have something to drink in one of the cafes near the Market as we were tired and very hot. We chose The Petra Cafe where Mike had a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice and I had an iced frappe coffee.
By this time it was about 11:45 a.m. so we thought we should head back to the hotel. It’s fascinating how hot it is in the sun and how the temperature drops when you are in the shade. Of course there is also the lovely breeze coming in off the Mediterranean Sea.
Once we were back in our room (about 12:20 p.m.) we had some water and strawberries to cool down. Then we called Mike G. and Emily who walked to our room about 1:10 p.m. We decided to walk to the Dasoudi Restaurant for lunch. There the four of us shared a bottle of still water and a bottle of the house white wine. Mike had moussaka and a salad, Mike G. had souvlaki and a salad, Emily had a Village salad, and I had grilled vegetables, baked potato and rice pilaf. We ordered Greek coffee for the 3 of them and regular coffee for me to have as our dessert. I don’t like Greek coffee as it has that sludge in the bottom of the cup. But sadly they brought us all Greek coffee.
About 3 p.m. we walked back to the hotel so we would have time to shower and get ready for tonight’s class.
For some reason the hair dryer wouldn’t work so I had to go with wet hair to the classroom to prepare for class later this evening. While I was gone Mike spoke with the staff at the front desk and by the time I returned they had repaired the hair dryer. Yay!
Class went well and we finished by 9 p.m. Mike G. and I walked back to the hotel where Emily and Mike had set up a light dinner in our room—spanakopita, smoked salmon, French bread, potato chips, olive salad, grilled halloumi, and another type of Cypriot cheese. For dessert we had fresh strawberries and cherries plus chocolate cookies and chocolate crisps for dessert. Along with this we drank 2 bottles of red wine. About 11 p.m. they helped us clean up the room and then they headed to their room which is now #38, next door to us. After cleaning up we decided we were tired and tonight would be an early night.
