Shopping in Old Town

Limassol, Limassol, Cyprus
I awoke about 6:30 a.m. with the sound of the traffic outside but went back to sleep until 8 a.m.  (Limassol can be very noisy and the hotel is in a busy tourist area). Downstairs we had the usual breakfast and then got ready to walk to the Old Market about 10 a.m. There we bought fresh figs and strawberries and then walked around the shopping streets in Old Town. Mike found a leather goods store where he could buy a belt and I checked out the purse offerings. We also stopped at the linen and lace shop where we bought a tan linen table cloth with the Greek key design and olives embroidered on the edges. Then we stopped at the icon place where the owner remembered me and welcomed us back. The icons were on 1/2 price as he was no longer going to sell them. We walked to the end of the market area to find a place for lunch and decided on To Phanari tou Diogenes (Diogene’s Lantern). Mike had a burger and fries and a “huge” Keo beer while I had a halloumi and tomato pita and water. We shared Mike’s fries as the order was enormous. We chatted with the waitress, Emily, and learned it was her birthday today. When the bill came they had reduced the price as they said our order took too long (they told us they were having problems with the French fry cooker). By now it was very hot and time to head back to the hotel, so off we went.
When we got to Debenham’s Department Store, we decided to stop and have a drink of water in the air conditioning and cool down. Of course we had to also make a trip through the clearance racks. After feeling somewhat refreshed we walked the rest of the way to the hotel. While I worked on my class at the classroom building, Mike walked to the Pharmacy to buy some Pevisone (a cream that is great for sun reactions). The pharmacist only had 2 tubes so Mike bought those and the pharmacist said he would have more for us on Monday afternoon.
Class began about 6ish and lasted until 8:45 p.m. (somewhat earlier than usual). After doctoring my blistered foot (from walking all the way from the Old Town area), Mike G., Emily, Mike and I walked up the street to the Pizza Express. Tonight we each had an appetizer—side salad for Mike, Mike G., and Emily and a buffalo mozzarella and tomato salad for me. Then we all shared a seafood pizza. The two Mikes had Keo beer to drink while Emily and I had white wine. The food was very good tonight. By the time we finished our meal and walked back to the hotel it was almost 11 p.m. So off to bed we went. It always seems strange that we can eat and drink this late at night and then immediately go to bed and actually sleep.
