Walking in Limassol and Dinner at Del Sol

Limassol, Limassol, Cyprus
We woke up about 6ish so that I could work on my class this morning. We had tried to set the alarm but apparently we set it for p.m. instead of a.m.! Ha! Ha! We were awakened several times during the night by the rowdy and noisy Irish group so they served as our alarm clock.
After breakfast I left Mike in the hotel lobby watching SkyNews as the t.v. in our room wasn’t working and I walked to the classroom building to prep for class today. I taught from 9 a.m. to noon then walked back to the hotel to get ready for lunch. Mike had done the laundry while I was working. We walked to the Santa Maria restaurant and sat outside under the awning as there was a lovely breeze coming in off the sea. We had still water to drink and then shared a Village salad. After that we split an order of calamari, chips, and steamed vegetables. I had wanted smoked salmon, but they were out. For dessert we had watermelon and white melon which was very lovely. As we were relaxing over lunch, Mike G. and Emily walked by and stopped to chat. They had walked to the Woodsman Restaurant for a burger and fries and were going to the beach. We decided to walk to the souvenir shop next door instead.
Once we returned to the hotel, they told us they had repaired our t.v. Well yes they had but the remote still doesn’t work. Oh well. What should one do then? Take a nap of course. After a lovely nap, we walked to the Alpha Mega grocery store which is just past the Holiday Inn to the north. We didn’t find anything we wanted so walked back and checked in with Mike and Emily. We shall meet them about 8 p.m. in their room for drinks, and then go somewhere for dinner. Since we had the evening planned, we walked up the street to the Papas grocery to buy some yogurt for breakfast tomorrow and some chocolate cake for later tonight.
About 8 p.m. we walked over to Mike G. and Emily’s room for a glass of Cypriot wine (it was the one he bought on our trip to the village of Omodos), along with some olives and chips. After much discussion we just decided to walk down the main street toward the Amathus area and see what restaurant appealed to us. We stopped at the Del Sol Restaurant as Mike G. and I had chatted with the staff there when we were here last October and they had seemed nice. Once we were seated and the menus with prices arrived we were shocked! Oh no! This was a REALLY pricey place. But oh well, we might as well splurge tonight. We shared bottles of water and then Mike and Mike G. shared a bottle of red wine and Emily and I shared a bottle of white wine. Then we all shared a Village salad. It was really good with lots of fresh oregano and white grapes which was a nice touch. I had a seafood kabob which they called bruschetta with a side of fries, Mike had a pork bruschetta with a steamed potato and some steamed vegetables. Mike G. also had the pork bruschetta while Emily had a steamed fish option. We shared chocolate fondant for dessert. The food was very good and the service was good but VERY slow. Our waiter was from Russia as were many of the people dining in the restaurant. This area of the city has many Russian people spending holidays here. About 11:30 p.m. we walked back to the hotel where we agreed to meet in the morning about 8:45 a.m. to walk to the bus stop for our trip into the Troodos Mountains to the Village of Platres. After that we went immediately to bed as we were both exhausted.
