Nord de Palma District, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands
Had a good sleep for a change then the Manager rang and said Ï believe there was an issue yesterday on checkin, and please come chat to him whenever.
Thinking he was going to apologize for the stuff up the night before we had breakfast first and then went to chat with him.
Yeah, so it wasn’t for an apology. Hard to believe what actually happened, but here’s the whole story!
On checkin the previous night we found hotel had messed up our two separate rooms booked under different bookings and different names and had us in one room and said the hotel was full tonight and couldn’t we just share the one room tonight?
When we wouldn’t accept that and after half an hour of arguing with them, “suddenly” there was a room cancellation and we could have 2 separate rooms after all.  And were told that was all sorted out now. Sorry about the inconvenience etc.
Thought it was dealt with but the next morning the manager Pedro, told us we would both have to move again as we had been put into triple rooms and we needed to be in double rooms.
After we advised moving was not mentioned the previous night he said he has other guests arriving and he needed the rooms. We couldn’t move right then even if we had wanted to as the new rooms would not be available until later. It was suggested we pack and they will store our luggage and move them to the new room later.  When we asked why we could not stay in our current rooms we were told it was not possible as the hotel is full.
By this stage we had NO faith or confidence in the hotel or that there would be a room for us later if we packed up so we advised we’d had enough and wanted to cancel the rest of our booking and wanted a refund.
By some miracle we were then told that we could stay in the current rooms after all.  Hmmm
This was too little too late and we checked out and moved to a different hotel on the other side of the island in Palma.
So now we know what happened to Madeline McCann, she wasn’t abducted, she’s been constantly moved by the hotel staff!
Anyway, we were super happy we had our own hire car so we could leave easily and not be at the hotels mercy.
Windy as a windy thing could be at Can Picafort so we headed off and drove around a few nearby beaches to see if there were some better ones.  Stopped at Alcanada and Alcudia, not so windy and a lot prettier at both these places.  Also saw some sunny side up bathing on the seaweed beach but didn’t see Christopher Skases’ mansion.
Kept driving and stumbled across Cape Formentor, a walk up a ridge next to the ocean which was very impressive and had a great view.    After this poor Michelle had to do a 3 point turn in our little Fiat on a narrow mountain road. We lived to tell the tale.
Drove to some other beaches to have a look, including Pollenca then had a wee stop at Sa Pobla in the middle of nowhere. After this drove through the almost deserted town of Inca and then finally into Palma to our new hotel which is SO MUCH NICER!!
Spent the afternoon wandering around Palma old town.   There’s an amazing Cathedral near the coast that has a large lake in front of it. Very impressive in the afternoon.  Beautiful old town with lots of laneways and squares. Saw a miniature “Spanish steps” in this area and saw an “inflatable doll” walking around ... tiny dress, sky high yellow heels, buoy boobs, and sausage lips!!  Tried to take clandestine photos but the guy with her was onto us.
Pretty tired and hungry by now so we choose a nice outdoor restaurant in a square next to a gothic church for our dinner.
Aperol spritz and pasta.  Muy bueno!!
Ended today a lot happier than we started.
