Nord de Palma District, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands
Up rather early at 6:30am today as we have a big day planned.
Off in the little Fiat and stopped at Manacor to wander around their markets. Michelle had hoped to have a bite to eat here and was disappointed to not find any food stalls. Then we saw doves, pigeons, ducklings, chicks and bunnys in cages and she said “hmm maybe they do have food at this market!”  We hope they were being sold as pets...
Left Manacor and continued on to Porto Christo to visit the Caves of Drach. Wow these caves were beautiful with amazing formations in a very extensive cave system.
Quite a lot of super clear water in the caves too.   One part of the visit was a concert where we all sat in the dark and then boats with lights and classical music being played were slowed paddled out onto the lake. The acoustics were really good, a fantastic experience, and after the concert we had a short boat ride through the cave too.
Next we stopped at Porto Christo for lunch - where we had surprisingly good rolls from the local spar.  The trick seems to be using olive oil and then salt on the bread rather than butter. Will have to try this at home and see if it’s just as tasty.
From Porto Christo we boarded a boat that visited several coves and into some sea caves. The water color!!!  Just amazing.  During the trip we saw a guy cliff diving and several possible Christopher Skase residences.  Sat outside the whole time. Beautiful in the sun though both a little crispy after.
Walked around Porto Christo after the boat. Saw some more sunny side ups on the beach. Very pretty beach and water - this is more like what we were expecting Mallorca to look like!
After this we drove up to Soller in the north to have a look around the cute old town with its trams and lovely town square surrounded by restaurants.  Found some interesting shops including some selling products made from natural cork - handbags, wallets, belts and shoes.
Michelle finally had her first gelato this trip (piggy me had my third ...)
Had Spanish omelette and aperol spritz at a cafe in the main square for dinner tonight. Local duet were playing and singing while we ate. Very relaxing and good food too.
After this we drove back to Palma and crashed for the night. Really big, long day!
