Had breakfast at a cafe across the square from the
hotel this morning. Yummy scrambled eggs with bacon and a decent cup of tea for
the price of one continental at the hotel. (I do love this hotel though. It’s a
different world to the other one.)
After breakfast we took the Fiat out again and set
off to Port Soller where we finally found a totally beautiful looking beach.
White sand, amazingly clear turquoise water and not too packed with sun
worshippers. Plenty of sunny side up eggs frying in the sun here
too.
We walked along the promenade for awhile then I went
on the tram up to Soller for the novelty of the trip while Michelle stayed at
the beach and had a swim and a kip on a sun lounger.
I had a quick paddle in the sea when I came back to
Port Soller and then we went for a meandering drive around. Drove up to a
viewpoint over Port Soller and then through lots of little towns in the hills.
We stopped at a small village called Formalutx for a walk around, up and down
the plant lined stone steps, taking photos and enjoying how beautiful it is.
Very picturesque around the village with lots of biscuit coloured stone terraces planted with
orange and lemon trees, some grapevines and every now and then a few goats
grazing in the shade. Also had a drink and snack stop here. Pretty hot and sticky at this
point of the day - got up to 36! We can see why the Spanish have a
siesta!
We then headed to Cala Deia beach down some very
narrow hairpin bend filled roads (good driving Missy!). It was worth it
though as we found a beautiful swimming spot in a natural rock cove. More of a
locals place with many small boats on the shore and a couple of places to have
a drink and eat. The water here was beautiful again and so clear that we could
see all the fish swimming around the rocks and some of them were a substantial
size. A waiter from the restaurant was trying to catch some by throwing bread in
the water and dangling a nylon line ...not unexpectedly, he didn’t have any
luck.
Sadly we didn’t have time to swim here and started
the drive back to Palma one last time.
It gets dark fairly late here - after
9pm- but still neither one of us relished navigating the twisty mountain roads
in the dark.
We drove a different route through the town of
Voldermossa, another pretty town full of terra-cotta tiled houses and cascading
blooms of bright bougainvilleas.
If only we had more time to explore a bit more.
Back in Palma we freshened up for dinner and went
downtown for our last tapas meal this trip. Found a really cool restaurant with
good food and very friendly and cute waiters. Had a couple of glasses of wine
too. The house wine in Spain has been great everywhere so far and so cheap!
Cheaper than a soft drink half the time! Was a good last night out
together.
Bit sad walking home though as I won’t see Michelle
tomorrow. She leaves for the airport super early and my flight is not until
6hrs later so no point me going out with her.
Had a hug in the lift and then messaged later that
night.
I hope it won’t be another 4 years before our next
trip together.
