Another day of pampering

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Times ticking down to when I leave. Done with Museums, just watching the street and looking after myself. Fighting off vendors is a full time job here. Ran into one of the shoeshine boys today, he looked sad and downcast when I said, "Tomorrow". Old soldier came up to me, one leg missing below the knee. "Americans" was all he said, I gave him my small notes and he saluted me. He pulled out a wallet with a picture of himself about 50 years ago looking very handsome and smart in uniform. Made me think "Americans?" He was in ARVN uniform the ones fighting alongside the US.
Went to a beauty parlour and had a foot massage then a manicure and pedicure and got all the dead skin shaved off my feet. Also had my little finger nail painted purple by one of the girls.
Tonight I went to Saigon Fish and Chips on Pham Gnu Lao which left Aussie fish and chips for dead. Three huge pieces of thick white tender fresh fish in a crispy batter and a handful of chips for 150,000 about $7.50. I'm going to miss this place so much.
Had a good chat with Ngoc today, she is the stand in receptionist for Thanh at the hotel up the street. Got a lovely pic of her but the uploader won't work with this crappy connection. I guess everybody is pretty sick of my meanderings by now anyway. I am teaching her a bit of English and she is teaching me pronunciation.
Today I embarrassed myself with my stick beak mentality. I was sitting at Allez Boo and watching a deal go down with cigarette lady and a young tourist, and after the cig lady went off to do something around the corner a young Vietnamese girl came up and was waiting to buy something or other and when the lady didn't come back she took what she wanted and walked off. I was leaving and as I passed Cig lady I told her what happened. She jumped up and strode down the street with only my description of White Cap to go on. She only went a few metres and there was the girl sitting minding a scooter or something. They knew each other. The girl was OK about it, I thought she'd be mad that I put her in. The woman and her hubby thanked me anyway. Its funny watching these old couples dealing weed, she keeps it in a cigarette packet like all the others in her tray but there's nothing secretive about making the deal. The young guy wanted to examine all the packets for the best one and it was all quite open. Minor dealing is ok, but I saw in the paper recently a banker had fraudulently misused bank funds and made bogus loans to his mates. He got the death penalty.Anyone think that should be general in our world too?
Another weird case I saw here was a cosmetic surgeon who was doing breast implants and the patient died on the operating table. Oh dear what to do?. Him and his assistant threw the body off a bridge. Another case involved a blood testing laboratory which instead of doing proper tests simply sent copies of other peoples tests out. The people involved got 10 years or so.

And don't mention the football!
