Roaming the Red Sea

At Sea, Saudi Arabia
As the title suggests, today we roamed the Red Sea. As has been the case for the last couple of days, we've encountered container ships, oil tankers and other types of commercial ships.

The weather has been relatively benign with daytime temperatures being in the low 30s. The only bugbear has been that the wind has picked up, and while this doesn’t affect the ship too much, it is playing havoc with our hair. Both Mum and I are returning from the outside decks looking like we’ve emerged from a hurricane – it is not a good look!

In his midday address and in addition to the information (like total distance travelled, weather and our speed), the Captain let us know that at about 3:30pm, we would pass Mecca. While we had no chance of seeing it from the ship, it was interesting to know that we would be passing it during the voyage.

My evening’s entertainment was the Brazil vs. Mexico game. Popcorn was eaten and clapping was done. Mum decided to watch the karaoke in the 'nightclub’. Surprisingly she said there were a couple of good people.
