Mediterranean melodies

At Sea, Kafr ash Shaykh, Egypt
Our first day cruising the Mediterranean was warm and sunny, but quite windy.

With 8 days straight of Zumba participation under my belt, my feet will certainly be looking forward to having a rest from meringue-ing and back stepping on the rough carpet in the theatre – I can't Zumba in sneakers, they get in the way of my groove and I swear I’m getting a little bit of carpet burn on the bottom of my feet!

In addition to our usual sea day activities and not to be outdone by Mum and her participation in the choir, I have signed up for the 'Ukulele for beginners’ class that is being run on sea days . It is actually quite popular with about 50 people signing up (there are two classes of 25). The first lesson was fun and we learnt 5 chords (only like another 300 to go). We were even good enough to play a class song that consisted of three of the chords we learnt.

While not wanting to big note my abilities, I must say I nailed the first class – I think what stands me in good stead is that my youth means my newbie fingers don’t cramp up as quickly as other peoples do.

Hopefully someone is radioing ahead to let Tahiti know we’re coming as I have a feeling than when we get there, several people may be purchasing a ukulele of their own.

Tomorrow we begin one of the more intensive parts of the trip – we do something like 16 ports in the next 19 days.

In the evening we braved the slightly cooler weather to watch the French vs Swiss football game. The clear skies plus a steady wind meant that we were relatively rugged up and made use of two complimentary blankets. We must have had a big day, as we were both resting our eyes just before half time and decided to continue watching the game from the comfort of our beds. In our defence, the game we normally catch don’t start until 10pm our time, so it is a late night!

Fun fact:
Walt Disney has won the most Academy Awards.
