Enjoying the Morning Sea Breeze of the Mediterranean Waters

This is our second day in Nea Makri, and the camera is already set from the previous night in such position easily to be grabbed for the first shots of sunrise . I am still sleepy though –this happens only when on holidays. Usually I am up really early and in the sea swimming from 7.300 till 10:00 am each morning! Yianni is still sleeping and for seconds I think getting back to sleep. I remain in bed for a few minutes trying to wake and I am between getting up and returning to sleep. My curiosity at the same time kills me.

"At least I should have a look outside the window" I thought and try harder this time to jump out of my bed.

"Our room is on the 3^rd floor so the view must be stunning" I keep telling myself.

With this thought I am up and I walk with a drag towards the door window. With surprise I see that the sun is already up in the sky but it is still so peaceful outside and nothing can stop me now from getting out to our wide balcony. There are two comfortable chairs and a small square wooden table waiting for us.  

With the dragging of the heavy door window to open Yianni is up too. The sea is so calm and beautiful as if a blue carpet is stretched all over up to the horizon. Some seagulls are flying above the rocks but I am still very lazy to pick the camera and take photos.

Thanks to all this beauty I am now up for good and I don't want to return to bed. I camp out on the balcony chair and just admire the peace and tranquillity that spreads around. I leave the door wide open to let the morning sea breeze get in the room and reach Yianni and make him come out.

I am so happy and thankful to God that I can still enjoy this amazing beauty. I know for sure that very few Greeks this year can have holidays and the maximum is between 3 or 5 nights. It is at such moments when I think of the present state of the country, the bad ruling for years, the interests, and the economic situation. I keep telling my friends that it is so unfair because nobody gets punished and this is surely a bad sign. Then again in an attempt to be optimistic I try to think positive and I am happy and proud to be a Greek and at the same time a very passionate Cypriot. Thanks to our history, architecture, beaches and food Greece and Cyprus have long been a mainstay of travellers' bucket lists.

With all these in mind it is time for the first cup of coffee. I always take along a very small electric teapot purchased from the Duty Free shops –don’t remember the country. Yianni soon joins me and the two of us are now on the balcony making the plans of the day.

It is breakfast first, and then swimming for sure.

The coast below is not actually Yianni’s piece of cake, however personally I don’t mind swimming by a rocky coast or deep sea waters with caves and wholes – I find them more attractive and natural because I love snorkelling. I actually prefer them to long sandy stretched-out beaches.
