SAMOS ISLAND, Northeast Aegean Islands, Greece
M A N O L A T E S   V I L L A G E

Coming to the island of Samos one should visit the picturesque village of Manolates . From the hotel this village is just 10 minutes. It should not be missed, because the village is considered to be the most popular on the Island.

A mountain road, shadowed by the tall plane trees and accompanied by running water which irrigates the thick vegetation, runs parallel to the ravine while climbing up the mountain and leads to the village of Manolates.

The view from up here is panoramic, and the place is called "forest of the nightingales" where thousands of these affable birds have built their nests in this forest. These melodies can be heard in May. Unfortunately we did not hear any singing, but the way up to Manolates is as if you are driving through paradise.

Manolates village is perched on the mountain inside dense vegetation. It is a traditional little village, and it is so pleasant walking through its narrow streets. Still today women sit outside their houses with their neighbors chatting and it's really something that has stopped in big cities. There are very small traditional tourist shops, selling all sorts of souvenirs like pottery, wine, herbs, beautiful woven pieces.

While having a stroll in this beautiful village I found a small little shop -selling everything. What attracted me most was seeing a woman weaving. I entered the small shop and immediately I was offered a glass of wine. The Island is popular for its wine by the way. I asked her to show me how she weaves and while she was doing that I could hear some music from the radio. I was told that the music was Traditional Music from Samos.

The woman was indeed very friendly, and her little shop is worth visiting. She is called Popi and the name of the little shop is ERGANI.
