MONODENDRI, Greece
VIKOS GORGE

The Vikos Gorge lies in the North Pindus Mountains in the historic area of Epirus, 30 kilometers north of Ioannina and 24 miles from the Albanian border . The area, called the Zagori, has 44 villages called the Zagorohoria. The 12-kilometer gorge itself can be hiked in two or three parts: Monodendri north to Vikos; Vikos to Papingo, and Monodendri south to Kipi and its lovely arched stone bridges.

THE DISTANCE
The distance to get to the small Church of Ag.Paraskevi from the village of Monodendri is just 1.5 km.

It is the 2nd time I come out here, and I promised myself next time to come up here and walk with other people the gorge.
It is something that I have to discuss with some friends who arrange these trips.

While at the church there were two little boys who were in charge of the kiosk there. They were so cute and helpful, and one man got angry that these two little boys were in charge of the kiosk, but when the little ones started talking to him and answered every querry he had, he calmed down.

You will have to cover a distance of 12-kilometer gorge itself and yes you can start from kipi and see the lovely arched stone bridges. It depends on you how fast you can cover this distance. The gorge can also be hiked from Monodendri north to Vikos, and Vikos to Papingo. I have not be lucky enough to walk this gorge myself though!
