Marathopoli, Peloponnese, Greece
OUR DINNER OUTING AT PANORAMA RESTAURANT / TAVERN
Respect to Customers, Good Value, Exquisite Tastes .
The dining experience here portrays the TRUE flavors of Greece. I was left speechless. Simple but tasty.
Being a person who appreciates good food through the many years of travelling, I have become a food enthusiast and a good restaurant critic. My work as a Travel Guide Writer demands much travelling and each time I am away from home I am always seeking out the best. My personal demand out of a restaurant is Quality food, Character and Service….and I found all three at Panorama.
So if you are after high quality fresh delectable food and don't want to get ripped off, then this is the place to be. It is undoubtedly the BEST restaurant in Marathopoli, but I could easily place it on the list of my first 5 best seafood family restaurants in Greece.
LOCATION: Panorama is right on the pedestrian road of Marathopoli. It cannot be missed. You will see the Greek flag waving across the rocks opposite the restaurant . Its unique location allows you to see the whole islet of Proti across the bay in the most relaxing atmosphere.
FAMILY BUSINESS: The family members run the restaurant since 2007 and through the years they succeeded in keeping the quality of food and service to the highest standards. Customers will find individual tastes, rich varieties of seafood but also meat Greek dishes, each with the personal touch of the chef and owner who is the father.
STAFF/SERVICE: Impeccable and Efficient! Smiling and so welcoming staff. It is the place where you will feel the hospitable nature of Greeks. I had the opportunity to have long chats with Kosta and Nikie who made us feel like family from the moment we sat at the table. A month back family members dined here twice, describing their dinner experience delectable as well.
ROMANCE: You can reserve one of the two water level tables that are way out on the rocks, for very private and romantic dining . What an amazing spot to be!
MENU: The menu is based on Greek cuisine. The presentation has a creative twist and here you will find great seasonal and regional dishes depending on the time of visit. Each dish has its own unique flavor and taste and I suggest you leave the Chef, or Costa & Nickie recommend the right dish for you.
D I N E R: (Pikilia) Variety of appetizers was our choice here.
BEVERAGE: We had a Messinian OUZO instead of wine. I love to accompany seafood at a tavern with ouzo, unless I am dining out at a gourmet restaurant, where I choose wine instead. Ouzo comes with some ice cubes and is usually served in small narrow thin tube-like glasses.
APPETIZERS: We had homemade 'fava’ topped with chopped onions (chickpea) for €2.50. If you have never tried it, ask for it…you will love it.
‘Chortarika Thalassis’ or Seafood Grass: An appetizer to count in . Peculiar taste, but I liked them a lot. €5.00. They are served in virgin olive oil and vinegar. If you really love seafood don’t miss it. (Picked from the edge of rocks)
'Tomato-keftedes' / Fried balls: An authentic Greek dish. €3.50.
SALAD: Ask for the Seafood Panorama salad. So refreshing! I never had similar before. What an exquisite taste! The portion was big, it was colorful and super yummy. If I had more days in Marathopoli I could easily have it as my main lunch dish. €8.00.
The Squid smelled its freshness from a distance. Scented and marinated, it is cooked in the oven but the last touch is made out on the grill. Bouncy in texture and slightly firm with a slight hint of crunch. The taste was sensational. €12.00.
I leave the very best for the end. This is the fried tiny "baby shrimps’ coming from the island of Symi. Never had them before and loved them. Crunchy and SO TASTY, deep orange color …with every bite you felt the freshness of the sea. This dish is surely not to be missed.
Of course I don’t intend to forget mentioning the freshly baked bread that Costas baked earlier which was perfect and was brought first on the table with our ouzo. There is nothing better than the smell of bread baking in the kitchen…and this comes hot here.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE: Simple food and extremely delicious. If I had more days in Marathopoli I could come daily. The freshness and taste of everything, the impeccable service, the unique location and homely feeling made our dining experience a memorable one. I undoubtedly recommend it.
