VOIDOKILIA Beach

Hidden behind sand dunes as if protecting its secret of magic beauty .
It has been recognized officially as a landscape of exceptional natural beauty by the Greek government, and is one of the most captivating spots in Greece. According to "The Times" Voidokilia is one of the best beaches in the world.

The beach is of outstanding beauty and lies beneath the Old Frankish castle (Paliokastro) and the cave of King Nestor, the ancient King of Pylos. According to legend, he used this cave as a haven for his cattle.

Taking the path up from Voidokilia to the Old Navarino visitors can enjoy the wonderful panorama that unfolds in front of them: the Divari lagoon of Gialova, Navarino Bay and the Peloponnesian hills are covered with olive trees.

The water visibility is exceptional. It's like clear bathwater. It's warm and beautiful and shallow enough to stand or lay in for 100 yards before it starts to get a little deeper. You won’t find currents and very little in the way of waves. The reason is that it is a protected tiny inlet bay.

The area is considered of archaeological interest, so it has remained intact by civilization. This coastline and the wetlands of Divari lagoon of Gialova (or Osman Aga lagoon) has been designated as a European Ecological Natura 2000 Site.

TIP:
There are no amenities so bring your own umbrellas and if you plan to walk further down the beach it's best to hug the shoreline where the water meets the sand. This makes walking easier.
