Omodos, Limassol, Cyprus

Excellent Guest House, Great Atmosphere!

Omodos is one of the most beautiful villages in Cyprus that preserves its quaint narrow streets and old stone houses

Being an extremely demanding traveler myself, seeking only the best I did not find it hard this time to spot the best accommodation to stay.

LOCATION:

The village nestles in the southern foothills of the Troodos range and it is only a 30 minute drive from the city of Limassol, not to mention that the area prides for its excellent wineries.

The traditional suites and restaurant 'Stou Kir Yianni' are set in the prettiest lane in a central setting of the village and very close to the Church.

WELCOME:

The team exceeded by far my expectations from every point of view.

I was greeted warmly by the owner and the whole team. They made me feel part of the family and I mention the word "family" because this is exactly the relation between staff and management here

This chain of trust and support created between them is what makes this business differ from others.

During my 2 night stay and after getting to know them better, I can easily say their motto could be “all for one and one for all”.

SERVICE: Top Notch.

Professional team, extremely friendly and ready to help. They would go out of their way to make guests feel at home.

Margarita is such a charismatic lady, discreet, always with a good word and a smile. She escorted me to my room to point out a few things about the functioning of different facilities.

Much later, I needed an iron and Galin, the Chef offered to bring me the one from his home. This gesture left me speechless and later on I found out that he is Margarita’s husband.

Of course praise goes to each and every one of the team who are just as discreet, polite and friendly.

THE STORY: The ‘house’ that Stavros built named “Stou Kir Yianni” in honour to his Father ‘Yianni,’ is superb. A traditional upmarket complex stands in the place of the very old mansion- house of those years. The new look, -boutique style accommodation, the shop, the avant-garde restaurant are these days at the forefront of ‘agro-tourism’ in Cyprus.

ROOM:

This upper floor above the restaurant where I stay used to be the old hay loft and the place where vegetables of the family were stored . I spent 2 memorable nights at one of the two superb tourist Suites -a self-contained apartment.

Named after a colour, the “Lime Suite” was specious and traditionally furnished in such way to match perfectly with the character and style of the complex and the round area.

The suite was impeccably clean, and functional and besides the wooden four-poster traditional bed which dominates the room, the other thing that cannot remain unnoticed is the very old wall niche, -kind of display window, whose colour comes in contrast with the rest of the wall.

When I attempted to open it I noticed hand-made crochet placemats, something that shows that attention is paid to details which help to support the character of the interior.

The view from the side window was the quaint and narrow street .

Besides the old wooden wardrobe, the sofa, the dressing table and the wall mirror, there was a satellite TV, a CD player, a hairdryer, and a fully equipped kitchen.

Coffee and tea sachets as well as sugar were provided and Wi Fi was fast and free throughout the building.

BATHROOM: Very small but clean with a walk-in shower cabinet and wall soap dispensers. The towels were changed daily. The downside however was that the room was not well lit.

Access to the suite was through the side entrance of the restaurant.

Climbing up the stoned staircase to a nicely decorated terrace room –protected from rain, a trendy space that serves as a sitting room or perhaps for private romantic candle-lit dinner for residents who stay in the suites.

Next door there was the other suite and a third one across the street but much smaller, ideal for couples.

This latter is in two levels, nicely furnished with kitchenette, a small sitting room and a bedroom upstairs. There are a few other family apartments in the village which are lovely too and are available to rent on either short or long term lets.

BREAKFAST: I had a double Greek coffee, a Fried egg, Lountza and Grilled halloumi cheese accompanied by cucumber and tomato, honey, butter and marmalade . The tastes were excellent and breakfast was enough to keep me fed till late afternoon.   RESTAURANT:

It is part of the old family mansion-house that has been turned into the most popular restaurant in Omodos…and not only! I bet it is the best in the round area.

Stavros has successfully managed to combine old world Cyprus charm with cutting edge modernity, and all these were created to allow him to serve the tastiest food you have ever tried.

There is a selection of traditional dishes daily for brunch or lunch, -Kleftiko, Snacks, Fish, Pastas and Mixed Grilled. The menu includes Vegetarian dishes too.

The Mezze is original here and includes 16 mouthwatering classic Cypriot dishes.

Dinner is mostly accompanied by live music.

I dined both nights with Greek music that made a great atmosphere.
It is advisable to pre-book even if you plan to come on a weekday.

Highlights of the Village:

The Monastery of the Holy Cross.
A Byzantine Icons Museum.
A Folk Art Museum
A National Liberation Uprising Museum (E.O.K.A. 1955-59)

 The 'Linos' wine press.

Guests are particularly attracted not only by the beauty of the village but the legendary hospitality of locals . A stroll to the narrow graphic streets of the village is a ‘must.’

The overall experience exceeded my expectations!

The rooms and restaurant never stop welcoming guests. This exceptional family business has the whole package: The best Cypriot Hospitality, Great Value for money, Quality Food, Excellent Service and Top Notch Entertainment. So, if you are that demanding like myself, book here -I highly recommend it.
