The Best Fresh Fish and Seafood in Cyprus to Satisfy the Most Discerning Palate!

The Captain's Table is the best place to come if you love fish and you are after quality . Fish are obtained daily from local fishing boats across the marina.

I could not leave Cyprus without coming here and I remember how I struggled to find some free time, but finally we made it for lunch a couple of days before flying back home. A restaurant with so many awards cannot easily be missed!

I was here without letting the business know, and in the capacity of a Food Critic I comment below on the choices we had.

AWARDS: Time Out Eating Awards 2016 -the best restaurant in the category "Fish" for the 4th consecutive year, a Certificate of Excellence 2016 once again from TripAdvisor. A third honor coming from the ESQR (European Society for Quality Research) for consistent efforts in maintaining the highest quality in both Service and Produce, and of course many more!

LOCATION: In an idyllic environment and with the blue waters of the Mediterranean at the background, the restaurant is right in the heart of the marina only steps from the fishing boats –From the Sea to the Plate! This is how simple it is and one of the reasons of the very fresh fish and seafood .

ATMOSPHERE: The indoor interior of the restaurant is chic and cozy while the outdoor seating is lovely and so inviting reminding a lot the Greek islands’ taverns. Sea theme with heavenly expanse never left the fashion trends! You can sit for hours out here without noticing the time going by. I remember the sun was setting the time we left.

Several of the tables were occupied by locals when we arrived and this was also another sign of quality food. Locals are picky and when it comes to fresh fish they know well where to find it.

THE MENU: Includes meat and vegetarian dishes too.

FISH MEZE: (2 persons minimum) €25.00 pp and includes salad, starters and a variety of fried and grilled fish and seafood.

BEVERAGE: One of the best wine collections…champagne, sparkling wines, international and local and of course, price differs depending on the label . Personally, we had Ouzo throughout the meal. €10.00.

STARTERS: We opted for meze to start with, but continued with the a la carte.

We started off with Grilled bread sprinkled with olive oil and oregano along with seven different exceptionally tasty starters (in the form of tapas) -Taramas, Tahini, Tzatziki, Hummus, Green Olives, Octopus pickles and Eggplant salad.

Separately a dish of fresh fried shrimps and potatoes, both crunchy and tasty. Along with the freshly-cut Salad we had the most delicious Grilled Octopus ever! Sweet, succulent with that distinctive, ever-so-slightly chewy texture and rich flavour.

The Grilled Cuttlefish with its exquisite taste, is the perfect summer dish if it is fresh, and it was the catch of the day here, very tender with a fresh sea smell. Cooked to perfection it was another irresistible choice . €15.00.

Accompaniment-wise, people seem to like a squeeze of lemon on fried calamari. Here the small calamari (squid) was so fresh that I skipped lemon only to enjoy the total pleasure of its freshness. Thumbs up! €16.00.

Mussels were of average taste, lacking a bit in taste as if something was missing.

Contrary to the mussels, the classic Saganaki, one of the most popular Greek appetizers stood out in taste. The mellow taste of feta cheese combined with the sweet, tender and full of sea flavors of fresh shrimps, slightly garlicky and garnished with parsley, was so tasty that words fail me! €11.00.

With an eye-catching presentation the Grilled Vegetables, were super yummy, while the Seafood Soufflé baked and served in a seashell with its melting texture was a savory delight.

GRILLED FISH: I can’t say the highlight was the Sea Bass because everything we had was exceptional too . If you are though at the best tavern of the region that boasts for the catch of the day with the freshest fish, how could you leave without having one!

The Sea Bass was so fresh and by far exceptional. Moist and flaky with a wonderful super yummy flavour!

The fishing boats in the marina, the blue of the Mediterranean, the exquisite tastes and professional service carried us away and it seemed that time passed so quickly. A little before sunset and still here! How could we drive off skipping coffee or a homemade delicacy!

DESSERT: Along with our coffee we had the home’s Kiwi liqueur, smooth and fruity with a subtle flavour that I urge you to try. We could not think of a better way to finish our culinary trip. The desserts of the day were irresistible too.

All three choices well balanced and super yummy!

A superb Chocolate and a Carrot cake, both flavorsome and so moist that melted in the mouth . Tiramisu with its delicate taste was the third one.

IN ALL: Impressed with the warm Cypriot hospitality, the top notch service, and exquisite tastes. It definitely deserves its status, its awards and the Top name on fresh fish. From the food, to the service and the atmosphere everything was perfect. If you are searching for fresh fish and a seafood culinary experience like no other, this is the place to be.
