Divine Tastes, Excellent Value!
For years I would get to the ground floor of the 'Hobos' building thinking that it is the same business with the restaurant upstairs, but I was wrong .
Friends urged me this time to visit Hobos before I get back to Greece. Finally I did and the dining experience exceeded my expectations.
The ‘Hobos Steak House’ in Larnaca and ‘The Steak House’ of Limassol are under the same ownership.
LOCATION: Unique! The restaurant is located right on the Finikoudes promenade and enjoys breathtaking views of the Mediterranean. It is actually on the main square half way from the marina to the Castle of Larnaca.
AMBIENCE: The outdoor terrace overlooks the beautiful palm trees and the sea, while the ambience of the interior gives the perfect intimate atmosphere. Decorated with attention to detail I could easily imagine myself out here on a winter evening with the company of friends enjoying the culinary specialties of the cuisine.
SERVICE: Personalized service, friendly and attentive staff .
Without letting the business know, and in the capacity of a food critic I am sharing below our tasting experience.
The menu is varied with choices for everyone while the Wine list is just as interesting. Prices vary depending on the brand.
STEAKES: Unique and flavoursome!
The selection of tender steaks includes USDA Certified Black Angus as well as Wagyu Steaks which are specially seasoned and then grilled depending on order.
The latter, the Wagyu Kobe Style beef refers to ‘Japanese cattle’. These animals are treated only to provide the most tended, succulent and tastiest meat in the world.
It is supposed to be similar to the ‘caviar of beef’! There is much info on their website and it is advisable to check it before going.
I arrived a bit earlier with a family member and at first we found nice comfortable seats by the terrace watching the beautiful sight . Minutes later we realized that our table was tiny so after the first glass of wine and before our orders reach the table we requested to be moved indoors but chose a seat next to the window again with still access to the view.
BEVERAGE: Started off with white wine and along with it, we were brought warm homemade bread-rolls nicely presented on a wooden platter with olive bread spread.
APPETIZERS: We could not easily decide but finally we opted for the Cheese twist. (Mixed cheese in crust served with strawberry sauce) Crunchy and yummy!
The Staffed with cheese deep-fried Mushrooms were tasty all right, but not my piece of cake! I can’t say they were not good because my friend loved them, so it is a matter of taste I guess.
SALAD: Nicely presented on a flaky pastry base, the Italian style Salad was rich in flavour and mouthwatering. Grilled halloumi cheese, over fresh rocket, roasted pine nuts and super delicious dried tomatoes sprinkled with honey balsamic dressing. Thumbs up!
Having a look on the variety of salads I found two more choices to be quite tempting.
The Orange Steak Salad -marinated fillet steak strips on a bed of lettuce with orange segments, sesame, colour bell peppers, cashew nuts, honey and ginger dressing .
The Berries Cheese Salad, -fresh rocket leaves with soft cheese stuffed with cranberries, fresh strawberries, roasted walnuts and honey balsamic dressing. I can easily imagine the taste of both. Playful for sure, refreshing and yummy!
FRESH PASTA:
Spaghetti di Pollo had a Superb Taste. Homemade fresh spaghetti with champagne cream sauce, mushrooms,colour bell peppers and tender chicken breast. Highly recommended!
GRILLED: Totally satisfied with our choice.
Two Steaks of exceptional quality, nicely presented, sided by grilled vegetables, a Jacket but also mushed potatoes. Separately, a bowl of white brown rice but also Garlic and Pepper sauce .
The Rib Eye Steak (USA) was my choice and I found it exquisite. I had it medium rare, cooked to perfection, tenderly juicy and mouthwatering. I tried two small pieces with the side sauces but it was ambrosial on its own with its unique flavour so I skipped the sauce. A savory dish with succulent divine taste, certainly not to be missed!
The New Zealand Fillet was my friend’s choice. I had a bite or two. This type of meat is lean and tender and does not need much cooking. Here it was nicely cooked all right and contrary to the above choice it matched well with both the Garlic and Pepper sauce. Try it and see for yourselves!
It is lovely that the menu includes a few vegetarian options too.
DESSERT: We had them all presented before ordering anything, and at first as you see them brought to the table you get lost and can’t decide . They looked irresistible!
My friend had two choices and I had one but nibbled from all three.
He had the Marrow Cake (cream with biscuits, chocolate and roasted almonds served with vanilla ice cream) Marvel to the eyes presentation, but a lovely and moist delight with a great taste of chocolate as well.
Having a sweet tooth, my companion opted for the Fererro Rocher Ice cream too. He loved it, it was ok for me, but I could not compare it to my own choice!
I went for the Pistacchio cream delight, super delicious and yummy topped with traditional Lebanese ice cream which made the perfect finale of our culinary dinner outing!
IN ALL: Quality, comfort and value for money is what makes Hobos Steak House exceptional. The restaurant can host business dinners, private parties as well as special occasion events. Be sure to drop by if you are in Larnaca.
Check the website for the special set menu for Christmas Eve & Christmas Night. It is advisable to make a booking since the restaurant is very popular.
