Cypriot Hospitality –Don't miss the Sunday Carvery!
Cambanella’s is a family run business since 2002 and is located along the Dhekelia road .
Through the years it has grown popular for its great steaks, but the cuisine serves other food as well.
AMBIENCE:The night we were here was pleasant and we chose to sit outside.
It was very peaceful, and quiet and there were one or two other tables occupied the time we were there. Of course it was a weekday, but I also believe the 'all inclusive’ harmed all similar businesses in the area.
It is though understandable that guests are compelled to have the meals offered at the hotels and seldom do they get outside to try different tastes.
The atmosphere would have been different if there were a few more tables occupied, but it certainly gets more customers during weekends especially on Sundays’ lunchtime.
CARVERY: Customers seem to speak highly of the Sunday Carvery which is at the excellent price of €12 .00 for a three course meal. I trust it deserves to give it a try!
SERVICE: The owners, Dino and Dimitra are a lovely couple and Dimitra happens to be the Cook of the cuisine as well. We were warmly greeted and they both made us feel comfortable and welcome, offering us impeccable and personalized service. By the time we left I had the feeling that I knew them for years.
CUISINE: The highlight of the menu is the Argentinean Steak but there are also some other specials like the Sea Steak Diavola, the Madagascar, the Desire Stakes and many more.
BEVERAGE: There is a good selection of Cypriot and French wines.
Our choice was a Red Cypriot Cabernet Sauvignon of excellent taste.
STARTERS: The meal was started with warm home-made rolls of bread and home-made Chicken liver Pâté accompanied with rucola leaves, freshly-cut tomato and triangular crusty slices of bread . It is a dish that I highly recommend. The silky-smooth Pâté was tender and mellow and rich in flavour.
MAIN: We opted for the Argentinian Steak, sided by steamed vegetables and a Jacket potato. The presentation would have been fine if the sauce was brought separately in a side bowl and not added directly on the steak from the kitchen.
This totally spoiled the real taste of the grilled steak and I was kind of disappointed. This perhaps is something the Cook should have in mind.
The meat was tender all right but the sauce overwhelmed the steak.
DESSERT: We had some lovely home-made Apple-pie and Crème Caramel for the end and a scoop of ice cream. Both were delicious!
In all, it was a pleasant outing! Peaceful and quiet the night we were here but if you like crowds and value for money come on Sunday for lunch. The owners make an extra effort to please their customers, they are friendly and certainly out here you will feel the Cypriot hospitality.
